the problems with Yanacocha gold mine in Peru. Mines are a major part of
Peru’s economy but they also are a major environmental issue in Peru. This
page is part of a larger organization called The Center for International
Environmental Law (CIEL), which “is a nonprofit organization that works to
use international law and institutions to protect the environment, promote
human health, and ensure a just and sustainable society”. The major
environmental issue in Peru in the Yanacocha mine which is one of largest in
Peru. The site outlines how gold is mined and the environmental affects of
the surrounding Peruvian communities. There is excellent information about
local resistance to the environmental damage done by the mine.
